Here is your CTF research assignment which is intended to demonstrate your understanding of how wildfires affect different areas of society and what role the government plays in these events.
In Art this week, students used practices of diplomacy, consensus making and democracy to create collaborative artworks which attempted to represent the wishes of all group members. There was a high level of engagement, and at times sound volume, in the room. Students were able to understand first hand what it takes to get decisions made and work done democratically!
Students have been learning eagerly about their personal role in a democracy. Not only have we been preparing to participate in student vote, we have also been preparing to have our own mini-election right here in 6C!
Students have expressed that they wish to democratically appoint their own representative to speak on their behalf at the Principal's Advisory group which meets weekly with Ms. Numan to discuss issues and make decisions about what goes on in our school. More information to come and hopefully pictures! Beakerhead is happening this weekend and I highly recommend that if you have time you check it out. It is a festival which celebrates the mash-up of Art, Science and Engineering and it is sure to have something for everyone. It is incredibly important for students to see the interconnectedness of various disciplines in our changing world and be exposed to the creative, innovative ways that artists, scientists, mathematicians and engineers collaborate and cross paths in their work. Visit the website below for more information on 'how to beakerhead'. Promo Video: It has been a busy couple of weeks at Dr. George. Students, new and returning, have settled in seamlessly and are ready and eager to get to work! We have begun the year by starting to look at the levels of government in Canada and what democracy is. Students will be bringing home their T.W.A.S journal (This Week At School) every Friday and sharing with you the highlights of their learning from the week. Hopefully this will serve to open the conversation with your child about what they are learning and allow them to show you what they know. Reminder Student led parent teacher conferences are on Thursday, Sept. 21st from 4-8pm and Friday, September 22nd from 8am-1pm. These will be focused on goal setting.
